Though, one of our ideas stemmed from a burger restaurant website, so I decided to compare Burgatory and Red Robin’s sites.

I think Burgatory’s site is well balanced in the sense that each page is laid out in a similar fashion. Things are very centered and bold, making it easy to read and navigate. The neutral color palette and grungy textures give the site a more urban/trendy feel, perhaps reflecting the type of customer they are looking for. The site does a good job of being eye-catching without being cheesy, which is the problem I had with the Red Robin web page. Though Red Robin’s site was very clean and professional its bright bold colors and ads reminded me more of a fast food joint rather than a real restaurant. Even though it was easy to navigate I found it not as aesthetically pleasing as Burgatory’s. Also their site was very standard looking while Burgatory’s changed things up with pop up menus and simplistic designs.

Both pages do a good job of representing hierarchy and unity, though in different ways. Burgatory has a floating menu on the right side of the screen that drops down to give menu options and cohesive color palette. Red Robin’s menu is stationary at the top of the screen and the only change it makes is by highlighting your current page and uses a bright, bold array of colors. Though different, both sites place a large and effective emphasis on their product: burgers. Each page is filled with beautiful burgers, wonderfully photographed. And although neither one has a search bar I don’t think it is necessary for this type of website. I believe the navigation is simple enough that no quick search is needed. In all I think these sites layouts, and simplicity make them nice to look, informative, and easy to use.

For the final website project my group is still undecided.
