Web Review#2
Back in the action of learning about different kinds of websites, I found that one page websites are a very interesting concept. Beforehand, I knew nothing about a one-page website. I didn’t even know they existed. Unless a person is web savvy, I will say it’s safe to say that most of the general public has only been exposed to a typical web page with typical content.
Unfortunately, my experience with a one page site was not as fulfilling as my ecommerce experience. This time around, while viewing a one page site was out of my comfort zone, I took the experience to a new level by choosing a site whose content didn’t interest me whatsoever.
The Ronseal Story was an interesting one page site for all the wrong reasons. With so many different ways to create navigation for one page sites, The Ronseal Story web page just fell short. One of the problems I found with the navigation was while there was a clickable arrow to move down the page, there was in turn no clickable arrow to move back up the page. This was mind-blowing. Instead of having a clickable arrow to move back up on the site, there was a tiny navigation bar on the right-hand side that functioned as the master navigation. By this I mean every section of the webpage was easily accessible with this navigation bar, so there really was no need for a clickable up arrow. I just felt like there should be one to balance out the page.
Another thing I didn’t like about The Ronseal Story one page site was that I had no idea what the site was about. While I initially skimmed through the site, I was hoping that would be enough to grasp the sites general function. It wasn’t. I actually had to read the content before understanding that the site was for Ronseal wood primer and paint. Just skimming through the site, one would think that it was an interactive history lesson. Alongside my issue with the poor layout of the content, I furthermore disliked the lack of theme. Every new page had a different background selection that was simply chosen because someone thought it looked pretty. The background choices varied from tacky to bland.
Because I understand how difficult web design can be, I wish I could say there was something I thought the site executed well, however I can’t. As far as one page sites go, this was very mediocre. I think the Ronseal Story web page needed some reworking before it was uploaded.
