ARTM2210 Intro to Web Design

Just another Intro to… site

Restaurant Reviews

 Burgatory:

Everything on Burgatory is really well balanced. The first thing you notice when going to their homepage is the huge burger with the pitchfork right in the middle, which is balanced by text and a few images on either side. The emphasis is definitely on the burger, since that’s what they are really known for. Everything feels unified through the usage of different blues, reds, and greens which helps to tie it all together. The layout is simple, and easy. When navigating over the burger a “menu” option comes up which leads you to the main page of their burgers. Everything is brown and red on this page which relates back to meat, and all of the other menu options are easy to find through the right-side navigation panel. Using Krug’s five most important things he stresses about it, it is simple, easy to navigate, you don’t ask yourself how to find anything.

Five Guys:

My first impression of five guys website is that it wasn’t really that interesting visually. But it does relate back to the décor in the restaurants so that does work out. Navigating the site was really easy and straight foward, but I would have made the text at the top saying “home, menu, etc” a little bigger just to draw a little more attention to it. It is well balanced with everything centered and divided “white, gray, then white”I really liked the polaroid type slideshow that is on the left hand side, I thought that was interesting. I think the emphasis on this page is the name, Five Guys, since that is the thing that stands out the most.Everything is unified through red, gray and white themed which are the restauraunts colors.

I think I like Burgatory’s website more, it is more interesting visually and makes me want to explore it a little more because I think it uses the design elements a lot better than it Five Guys did, and better too.
