Francescosholeinthewall.com is a web page that employs a lean layout, a warm color palette, and appropriate imagery to convey the idea of the small, family-owned restaurant.
Its navigation system is simple without many bells and whistles and while it probably won’t win any prizes for the artistry in it, it is effective. It uses the top frame of the blackboard where the links are placed, to simulate a navigation bar. The right side of the frame hosts a number of links that take the user to read reviews about the restaurant in various external web sites.
Overall, the colors are dominated by the sienna red background – resembling the colors of a brick wall – and the grays of the blackboard in the middle. There is a hint of texture on the top of the page where an actual image of a brick wall (with a hole) containing the logo, fades into the red background.
There are many similarities between this web page and our project. They both exploit the idea of the hole and maintain a consistent layout throughout the whole web site. In our project the color palette is dominated by black and blue. The navigation is similarly simple but there are two additional elements in our project: jquery that creates the rollover effect making links clearer and the punch-out hole-shaped blue menu buttons that indicate which page of the site the user is visiting.
