The Original Hot Dog Shop (Often called simply “The O”), while not a fusion restaurant, is the closest direct competitor to Giovanni’s. The O is a famous pizza, burger, and french fry joint in the heart of Oakland.

Layout

The page layout of their website is simple and consistent. Each page consists of a centered content area, which features a photo and logo at the very top, along with the site menu. On the homepage, main content area is divided into two columns, one featuring an overview of the store location and hours, and other important information. The second column contains a short overview of the eateries history and current services. On other pages, the entire content area is dedicated to the subject of that page. At the very bottom of each page, the menu is repeated.

This layout is consistent throughout the site, and works very well.

The site uses Arial for all body font, and the menu text uses ‘Bebas’, a narrow, bold sans-serif font served off their own site.

Color

The site’s background starts out with a dark blue to light blue gradient at the top, then meets a red horizontal line, and is white the rest of the page. For the rest of the site, dark blue is used as an accent color. The red, white and blue theme looks a little basic, but is a good, american color scheme, which goes well with a hot dog shop.

Texture

The site’s texture is very flat. The only evidence of texture is a small outer shadow around the content area.

Navigation

The navigation of the site, while simple, is effective. There aren’t any menu trees – just one menu with 9 options, with everything you could want to know right there.

Our website makes better use of large images to convey meaning, and the choosable themes allow the site to be tailored to the user. Our menu has even fewer options, giving the user even less confusion in finding what they want. Our layout is also responsive, meaning it delivers an excellent user experience across devices. We also include functionality to order online if the customer prefers.
