ARTM2210 Intro to Web Design

Just another Intro to… site

Extra Credit Review Topic: Band Site

The site I chose to discuss is the band Rascal Flatts’ website. The colors on this site are very neutral. The very top of the page is a medium color gray, while the navigation bar right under this is a lighter gray. Under the navigation bar the rest of the background is black. The background for the boxes that hold the text are various grays, and the lettering various from white, black, gray, and red. The only parts of the site that are not neutral colors are the pictures of the band, and the social network links at the very top of the page. The colors, I believe work very well together, creating smooth looking site that is neat and organized. The red within the site gives a good balance of neutrals and bright colors.

The textures on the site are not very noticeable. The top of the page with the medium color gray has a spectacle texture, with extremely small white dots. The navigation bar is a solid gray with no texture. The black background has a vertical line texture that is also not very noticeable. The lines in between the black are a very light gray.  The boxes that contain the information on each page do not have a texture either. They are a solid color, varying in different shades of gray.

The navigation is very easy to follow. The navigation bar is at the top of the website with the various links to each page. When navigating to the various pages there are other links that the user could click to either, buy tickets for a show, buy the band’s music, write comments, enter an e-mail address, and much more. Also, the band’s name at the top of the site is a link back to the home page. No matter what page you are on, the navigation bar is at the top of each page, and so is the name of the band.

This site is very effective at guiding the user through the website. The navigation bar is easily located at the top of the page, and each link connects you to the different pages. Once on a different page, the user can scroll down to read what is on the page. The user, however, must scroll back to the top to click on a link on the navigation bar. I believe this site is very easy to navigate through, and anyone would be able to understand how to use this site.

This site is somewhat similar to the design my group chose for our final project. The navigation bar is at the top of the site right under the name of the band. The design for our website has the same set-up, we have the name of the band at the top with the navigation bar right underneath. Also, we included photos, videos, music, and a tour date tab just as the Rascal Flatts band has done. The site also includes the slide bar on the home page. My group included a slide bar on our pictures and videos page. We also made sure to put the important information in the center of the page, just as the Rascal Flatts sight has done. Our website will stand out because we have interesting graphics, exciting music that one is able to click on and listen to, and made the site simple for everyone to be able to navigate through easily.
